Canon 14
Laymen who disregard the canons should be excommunicated, clerics deprived of their office.
[...] If someone disregarded the canons or considered them as worth nothing, if he is a layman, he should be deprived of the communion, and if he is a cleric, of his office.

Discussion:
Since no person is supposed to be punished twice for the same crime, the punishment for the clerics (the deposition) can be seen as lighter than the excommunication, reserved for the laymen. See also [64].
