Fidel Fita (1914: 537-539) read the name of presbyter "Sabas" and reconstructed the date on the inscription as the year 454 (AD 493 in the Spanish era), first year of the indiction after the consulate of Anastasius. His interpretation was accepted by Vives (1942: 79, no. 268) who only hesitated as to whether the name should be "Sabas" or "Obbas." These propositions were discarded by Veny (1965: 79-81) who considered the reconstruction of the date unfounded, and read "BAS." as a suspension for Bassus, and dated the inscription to the end of the 6th century. It was later suggested that the Bassus commemorated in this inscription is the sam as he who subscribed the acts of the synod in Rome in AD 595 as "Bassus presbyter tituli sancti Pudentis" [XXXXXX], who was sent to Mallorca as an ecclesiastical envoy (Vallejo Girvés 1993: 424). For the analysis of the script see (Vizcaíno Sánchez 2007: 751-752). This identification is not mentioned in the prosopographical entry of Bassus in PCBE, Italie, v. 1, Bassus 8.
At the turn of the 6th century, 12th of April of the first indiction (if we assume that it started from 1 September) might be 12 April 569, 584, 599 or 614.
