Funerary inscription of Telemachus, presbyter probably in Cástulo or Beaza (Iberian Peninsula), mentioning his ecclesiastical career, the 7th c.
In (h)os tumulos quo/s cernitis requie/[scit] in pace famulu/s dei Telemacio pr(e)s(biter) / vixit an(n)os XLVIIII m/ansit in onorem dia/conii annos sex pr(e)/s(bite)ri(i) decem et octo.

In this grave that you see rests in peace the servant of God, Telemachus, Presbyter. He lived 49 years, held the honourable office of deacon for 6 years and that of presbyter for 18 years.

Discussion:

We can conjecture that Telemachus was a presbyter in one of the neighbouring towns, that is Baeza or Cástulo (Salvador Ventura 1998: 193).

Two marble slates, one of which has the inscription of Telemach was found in a place called Torre de Ninches, near Baeza (Iberian Peninsula). They did not survive to our times and are known only from the 17th century chronicles of Jaén (Hübner 1871: 56).
