In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we have gathered together in the council of Huesca and the holy council has decided that once a year every abbot of a monastery, presbyter, and deacon of the diocese will go to the gathering in a place chosen by the bishop. The bishop will show to all how to lead a regular life and will admonish them, so that all shall submit to the ecclesiastical rules until their reputation of frugality, sobriety and true chastity has be confirmed by the testimony of noble persons. It is proper that everyone of us is concerned about these issues, so we will examine thorughly whether the life of the presbyters, deacons, subdeacons, and other clerics is chaste and pure. If it is otherwise and one has a bad reputation, it will be acutely scrutinized through a truthful and certain trial of clerics, other people under oath (virorum admanuensium), and of women who were the source of this bad reputation, and through an examination of other evidence that usually indicates adultery. No one shall be marked by the shadow of false accusations and no crime shall be covered by excuses while its perpetrators boast that nothing was proven of them in public examination, but they will show that they lead a good life, proved by the testimony of honest clerics.
