[Title according to the codices of the Fossatensis collection] I. On the twice married that they should not be ordained.
[Title according to the Hispana collection] I.On the twice married not to be consecrated.
[Title according to the collection of codices S. Amandi] I. Married to wives who were married earlier to someone else should not be ordained.
It was therefore decreed that after this synod, which indeed finds, though late, a remedy for such illicit practices, no one can be ordained a cleric who was twice married or is married to a wife who was married earlier to someone else. And it should not be distinguished whether it was after being initiated into the divine mysteries, or when they were pagans, or if they were stained because of an unfortunate fate, because the divine command is peremptory. However, because we cannot condemn either the ignorance, or naivety, or even the stubbornness of our brothers, and correct the things that were previously done wrong in all the churches, we decided not to do anything with those of such condition who were ordained prior [to this council], if there appears to be no other reason that suggests they are unworthy of their office.
