During the life of Siricius, bishop of the holy Church, Ga[. . .], presbyter decided to [dedicate] it to the holy martyr Clemens.

The inscription, written in Damasian letters, was found and reconstructed by Giovanni Battista de Rossi on the marble slabs used to make a marble seat during the 12th century restoration of the basilica S. Clemente.
