About the source:

Origin: Grésy-sur-Aix (Gaul)
This inscription was first documented in the 16th century by Emmanuel-Philibert de Pingon, baron of Cusy, who saw it at Grésy-sur-Aix (located 3 km north of Aix-les-Bains), at the edifice Pingon described as sacellum antiquissimum, "most ancient shrine," situated next to the castle. According to Pingon, it could be found on the column (see ill. made by Pingon); it seems it was positioned above the enlarged part which formed a sort of capital, but Pingon description and drawing are here quite enigmatic. It was still intact in 18th century when viewed by Guichenon. In 1861, the inscription was found once again, now missing the first line, and placed in the gardens near the tower of Grésy. At present, however, it is nowhere to be found. Dimensions: 40 cm x 50 cm (Pillet), 40 cm x 60 cm (Le Blant).
Descombes admits that the dating of this inscription is very problematic. Although he had included it in his collection (which covers the period up to the Carolingian renaissance), he had doubts whether it could be considered older than the 8th century. As of now, no definite argument has been made.
