(Recueil des inscriptions chrétiennes de la Gaule: XV, 252)
Whoever turns to prayer, pray for Presbyter Agapius; since you have the Lord the Creator for your protector, God forbids deeds, forbids what was said, forbids ill thoughts. He lived 85 years; he died on the Kalends of January, 68 [years] after the consulate of most illustrious Basilus, in the 10th [year] of the indiction.

Discussion:

The exact dating is not possible, since the year of the consulate does not correspond to the year of indiction. The 68th year after the consulate of Basilus was either 608 (using modus Victorianus) or 609 (using modus Marcellianus). The tenth year of the indiction starts on the 1st of September of the year 606 and lasts to 31 of August of the following year. It seems, then, that the 1st of January 607 is the most probable date of Agapius' death. For more on the problems with agreeing the years of consulate with the years of indiction, see RICG, Introduction, nos. 93, 94, and 98.
