On the ministers that lend money at interest, it pleased us that they would, in accordance with the divinely given law, abstain from communion.

The First Council of Arles gathered in 314 under the auspices of Constantine the Great to solve the controversy between Bishop Caecilian of Carthage and the emerging Donatist movement. The Donatists, dissatisfied with the ruling of the Council of Rome in 313, implored Constantine to summon a new council. The First Council of Arles, however, also condemned the Donatists.
